Great start to our first day at the Volta Algarve Bike Race Tour in Portugal. Fantastic coastal ride of 80 km, magnificent cafe stop in the shimmering sun of Burgau, next stop VIP access to the super-fast stage finish in Lagos, great getting up close to teams, riders, in a very unique atmosphere…got to get pedaling to stage 2.
Ohh what a day! Amazing VIP hospitality stage start amongst the pros (did it really feel like that all those years ago?) We cycling ‘admirers’ in the ‘thick of it…it’s such a privilege to be in their bubble. It’s time to dash cross country 40 km to our second live viewing spot of the day, amongst the professional ‘VoA’ press (sorry) the perfect spot with the sun shining above Silves Castle, next stop Monchique for mountain cuisine…will the winner of the Volta be decided here on Foia? Does he keep Yellow for the rest of the week?
Até amanhã
Marvelous Monchique to ‘Smashing Sagres’ for another perfect Volta Algarve Bike Race Tour day, when you have VIP status it’s your perfect day! The tranquility of the Serra Monchique roads to discover by bike and share with Steve Cummings (Dimension Data) his hill efforts must be for a pre time trial warm up!
Our reward for pedaling the ‘perfect pace’ – your pace of priceless views, and the amazing sweet delights of the region to keep the legs turning…the clock is ticking time to fly south to see who’s got February power?
It’s the ‘End of the earth’ views as our back drop, blasts of colour, as the fight for yellow continues, we c’mon Dan Martin….the TT specialists rule today! Time to share a picture, a laugh and an apero…
Almodovar here we come tomorrow
Doesn’t everybody wish they could have a ‘rest day’?
Town of Almodovar, stunning landscape, rolling plains nestled amongst the hills of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains. Stage start excitement with the relaxed peloton, led through the streets by the local junior cycling kids, the ‘Australians’ once again left their mark on this quaint town, anytime is a good time for a ‘beer’ in Portugal with the ‘Sporting Almodovar locals’. Between our rooftop viewing and chatting with the towns folk time has disappeared as the breakaway has arrived, cheered all the way thru this tiny white washed village.
Practice Bicycle aim to please…on route visit to Silves and the ‘orange festival’ – it’s true they do taste like chocolate! : Discovering amazing cork gifts and our favourite pottery store…the Portuguese shops had an amazing Saturday!
It’s time to pedal, stay glued to Eurosport 2 for the race action tomorrow on Malhao (our Algarvian Alps)…
