This afternoon remove the effects of your travels and escape away from our blue paradise home with a ride into the heart of some of France best fruit growing country, especially for apples and pears.
As we wind our way up and away from Lake Annecy and head into the heart of France and true agricultural country. This area between Annecy and Geneva is dotted with tiny villages and farming communities with quiet tranquil roads waiting to be explored by bike. Look out for the Pont de la Caille historic suspension bridge with amazing views to the gorge below. This patchwork quilt French countryside is just as spectacular as the Grand Alps but in its’ own unique and different way, it’s not long before the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy can be seen in the distance as we loop back in the direction of Annecy.

Annecy Cycle Tours French Alps Day 2 – The Pearl in the Box

What a ride a breathtaking lap around Lake Annecy, the cleanest Lake in Europe. The ‘Pearl in the box ‘surrounded by the Forrest mountain of Semnoz on the west and the massive La Tournette (2351m) and the Grand Alps to the east. Leaving Annecy Centre Ville at a leisurely pace, starting with the bike path, this converted railway line makes for perfect photo opportunities on route; it’s not long before we are following the contour of the Lake and stopping for a café and patisserie at one of our favourite bars to immerse yourself in the slow pace of French life.
Exploring the tiny labyrinth of streets and passing homes from medieval times, contrasting spectacular views every few minutes as we tour the lake. It’s easy to see why we like to take in this gentle ride…..so much to see in such a short period of time!

Annecy Cycle Tours French Alps Day 3 – A taste of the Alpine Cols
Planned Ride – 65km ride time 3hrs route Col du Marais
Today we have chosen one of the PRACTICEBICYCLE favorite climbs the Col du Marais, this challenge with its constant grade and relatively short duration makes it a French Alps pleasure for all!
This route like many of these amazing rides can be ridden from a variety of directions, we will head south today down the side of Lake Annecy. Taste your own French Alps at your pace with the gentle slopes of the Col du Marais (10km @ Average 4%, 843m Altitude), the air is fresh and the views are magnificent and experience for yourself why the French Alps are perfect for a cycling vacation.
Your little taste of the grand Alps continues descending through the village of Thones, a beautiful town and the center of the famous local “Reblochon” cheese production industry. With this cycling effort there is always a reward today we’ll enjoy lunch at one of our star restaurants on the edge of Annecy, overlooking the Chateau de Menthon-Saint-Bernard.
Tonight, you may wish to enjoy a perfect evening promenade with a stroll through the ‘Jardins de l’europe”, crossing the ‘Pont des Amours’ and along the famous ‘Avenue d’Albigny’ for an aperitif on the terrace of the Imperial Palace.

After yesterday’s entree into the Alps, today we will show you one of the many pleasures of riding in ‘Cycling Paradise’ the opportunity to explore in all directions.
Our pick of the rides today is the tranquillity of the French country lanes as we explore to the West of Annecy amongst traditional tiny villages and away from the Grand Alps. This perfect ride show cases the rolling green fields of France with the Semnoz Mountain Forrest and the spectacular jagged silhouette of the French Alps for the perfect backdrop.
There is always the ideal opportunity for a refreshing break in a picture postcard setting, why not a classic French Midday lunch in the country, what could be better than the tiny village of Vaulx, Feeling hungry? Annecy Cycle Tours French Alps Day 5 – Park Massif des Bauges

No Lake Annecy cycling experience would be complete without visiting one of our favorite areas, the Park Massif des Bauges region. We could spend all week exploring the Bauges together, popular in winter with the skiing fraternity, just as breathtakingly peaceful in summer by bike. The Park Massif des Bauges area has a wonderful network and choice of quiet valley roads available to you, all with amazing different scenery.
Start this adventure with the constant and comfortable grades of the scenic climb of Col de Leschaux (12km, average 4%, 900m Altitude) a favourite with the local cyclists and maybe you’re favourite also? Take your pick of an endless choice of ride options as we can head down one of the beautiful valleys and work up an appetite for lunch in the heart of the Bauges at our ‘local’!
A must try is Mark’s chocolate éclair or if you have a more savoury palate…Tome des Bauges Fromage – A unique cheese which comes from local dialect ‘toma’ meaning cheese made in mountain pastures, produced in this Regional Natural Park of the Bauges Mountain. Complete this tour with a stunning descent back into Annecy with amazing views of the lake and Alps around every corner, the perfect photo opportunity!
This afternoon and early evening you may wish to explore the medieval streets and canals of the ‘Venice of the Alps’, including the Palais de l’Isle and the Château d’Annecy two of the many attractions.
