Italy Cycling Is On The Way Up
Womens Pro Italy Cycling Varazze – Sanremo 2002
With the World Pro cycling season starting this weekend with the Primavera Classic, the Spring classic of Milano – Sanremo. This epic 300km one day race held its first edition in 1907 and is one of the five prestigious monuments of professional cycling. The race route starts in Milan before heading South to the Mediterranean coast, it then follows the Italian Riviera to Sanremo. The final exciting 50km of the route includes the Capo Berta, Cipressa, and the Poggio climbs before the finish line on Via Roma, Sanremo.
From 1999 to 2005, a women’s Pro race, the Primavera Rosa, was organized alongside the men’s but with a shorter distance.
Practice Bicycle Tours very own Bridget Evans was part of Italy cycling during these times with great memories of these racing days. In 2002 the Womens edition ran from Varazze to Sanremo, we hope it won’t be long until the Womens World Tour is back on the Italian Riviera.
